This poem was written as a gift to a very nice lady that I used to work with. She asked me to make one for her daughter, who teaches autistic children, and so this is what I was able to come up with.
I was going for a rather simply written, straight-forward piece, using a modified sonnet form. I hope you all enjoy it, and I especially hope that her daughter does.

The first quatrain is a nice opening, especially the implementation of the feminine rhyme: selector / director. =D
After that, the poem does seem to, as
neoblackcat said, take an awkwardly intricate turn; the message certainly remains intact, but the execution changes. (o.O)
"to remove the masks behind which they hide."
Though in reference to the children being taught, it comes off as a peculiar way to embody the process of teaching, especially after the flora simile in line 2. The line itself isn't bad, it just feels out of place with the rest of the poem. :U
Actually, when I look at it more, the last stanza doesn't seem all too bad; in FACT, the use of the word "evaporate" is quite refreshing! It's definitely the middle quatrain that appears to be aloof. =P

Speaking of, I'm autistic myself, and i have a slight affliction of tourettes, and aspergers syndrome. People like this ladies daughter make the lives of people like me wonderful. Without women of her caliber, we tend to be forgotten. If you should see her, send a emphatic thank you to her from me, and all of my fellow man, who were diagnosed.
