(Also imagine a Pokemon-like spinoff series where your monster allies have names like these, too)
Just some innocent fun-poking at the Dragon Quest series, one of my fav series ever (especially Dragon Quest Monsters). Not all names, terms, and phrases in the games are offensively punny, but man are there some bad ones xD really kills the immersion sometimes, in my opinion. The names listed are from Dragon Quest XI, which was a pretty good JRPG, all things considered.
Just please, Square Enix, PLEASE dial back the cringe a bit T_T

I've done a lot of research on this issue, and all titles prior to Dragon Quest 8 barely ever had puns. A few here and there maybe, but it definitely wasn't comparable to 2005 and onward. You can check Woodus.com (aka Dragon's Den) and they catalogued all the info (like monster names and spells) of most DQ titles. That's how I got a full perspective on the new localization methods.
A monster with a cool design, but with a tragically bad English name. The Japanese name is "Rubanka", which by itself is already light-years ahead of "Face Invader".
