"The Borzoi was bred for hundreds of years by the Russian nobility. They were developed by crossing the Arabian Greyhound with other longer haired Russian sheepdogs. The dogs were called Russian Wolfhounds in America, up until 1936 when the name was changed to "Borzoi", coming from a Russian word 'borzii' which means swift. Fierce on the hunt, this sight hound was used for hundreds of years to hunt wolves, fox and hare in the open planes of Russia. As the breed became more popular it was used more and more as a companion dog and its temperament became more docile. The Borzoi was recognized by the AKC in 1891. The Borzois talents include hunting, sighting and lure coursing."

LOVE borzois......lovelovelovelovelove 'em. They're just so BIG! and so elegant! If i were to own a sighthound, it would probably be a borzoi.

that is awesome! Borzoi is my number one favorite breeds, but they're also kinda' hard to own, because they're so noble and get offended easily and then they're surly for a loooong time XD I should know, I used to own one x) haha Now I have an little easier dog, a Border Collie ^^
Thank you ^^
Amazing dogs, and so beautiful (I can certainly imagine one acting surly cause it got in trouble) but difficult or easy to own, and as much as I love them, I don't think I could see myself actually owning one...Not really sure why, but a noble looking dog like that would look VERY out of place in my family (the bunch of rednecks we are XD)
Guess i'll stick with the big, bumbling dogs we have, they fit in a bit better XP
Thanks again :D
