Gimmie that Sunshine!!
It was pleasantly sunny out today, Goldilocks temps, not too hot, not too cold, just right!
And I made sure my collared lizard female, Chunkbutt, got her time out to collect badly craved solar energy and vitamin D.
Her breeder colors, the orange, are slowly fading, for they came in around late April. Needless to say. She took it all in and got grumpy I had to bring her in before I go to work here in a few minutes.
But its a fine example of the coloration of a female Western Collared Lizard, Arizona captured 3 years ago.

So the females are the ones that get the bright orange markings. I see some dang big ones at the rifle range up in Chino AZ. The running joke up there is the ones with orange are Range Masters - same color as the safety vests worn by the range staff. Everyone leaves the lizards alone and they just watch you from off to the side of the firing line.
I take it they like grassland areas - pretty much what describes the Chino area. I live at a slightly higher elevation with more brush than grass - have some other lizard species in the yard. Need to get a guide book on AZ Reptiles. Haven't seen the Collareds around the factory but we do have some dang big glossy dark grey ones with bright blue bellies.
thanks for info. Almost booped a Clark's on the nose at the folks place a few weeks ago. Big sob who was doing push ups at me near their front door - yard and garden are full of a number of damn big lizards. I got about a half inch from him before he moved, turned and I swear gave me a dirty look. He's missing a bit of tail, regenerating the tip but it looks a little funny. Seen him there for a few years now.
