They have a unique smell, but it’s incredibly subtle and doesn’t smell like anything you’d find in our human world! So it’ll have to remain a mystery to us humans! :P

So then do Cores serve a further purpose? If they are lying around I doubt that they are a minted currency, plus their design makes me think that they would be frustrating to carry around as one. The kinda make me think of "Refractors" from Megaman Legends, where they could be traded as if a currency, but were ultimately used as a power source.

Cores have so many uses, that I don’t even know where to begin! They are the sole currency, but you can’t use them as such while they’re still in their shells (like you see here). You have to remove them from their shell, which is a notoriously difficult thing to do, and that’s one of the reasons animals aren’t filthy rich from just finding cores. It takes a great skill to remove the core from the shell correctly, because you have to remove it without fracturing it , if you fracture the gem, the gem loses its colour and becomes useless (somewhat. Clear cores are still used for jewellery etc.). But, there are different colours too, which have more worth and less worth etc. The higher worth ones, are the most difficult to find, and even more difficult to remove. Not to mention you can find them in clusters, where multiple cores are in one giant shell.

They are indeed used for power sources as well, but are also used to make dyes, and so much more. I’ll have to make some kind of “guide to cores” or something, I think X)
