The Master had just resheathed his dagger, when there was a soft clapping of paws from a dark corner. The dagger was rapidly drawn, and in the flickering light, a fur could be seen, leaning on a cane.
The stallion in question was looking on in great amusement at the scene. From where he drew his amusement, no one could say.
"Mrs. Carillion? You're needed."
I did a rapid jump back, just in time to miss a tumbling feline who rolled past me. When she came to a stop, right side up, it turned out to be our old acquaintance the ocelot. I gave her a good cresting snarl.
"How's your neck?"
"How nice of you to ask. Such lovely manners they have, don't they, Mr. Mountjoy?"
"Breeding will tell, Mrs. Carillion, breeding will tell."
A pair of relatively competent villains...at least until they cross swords with the Wolf Queen and the Master of Elfhame...
Any resemblance to certain British operatives is purely intentional.
