Nirilith, or Niri to friends, is a Basilisk -- a race of lizards from the far-off deserts. After the humans waged war against their civilization in a brutal crusade, the Basilisks have fallen into ruin. Centuries later, very few are left, and much of their culture and knowledge has been lost to the sands. Worse yet, they are hunted for the near-magical properties of their blood, which serves as a powerful healing substance when mixed into potions. Their only defense is also their greatest curse, the ability to turn any descendant of man to stone with their gaze.
