22 inches of snow dumped on us today. Here, the cats react to me opening the door to take some snaps.

Middle photo: LOOK AT ALL THAT! We're below the Mason Dixon line, this is exciting.
Right photo: James, curious. And that's a step *down* to the front walk!

Grew up in northern VA and remember the last 22" snowfall (1979). Yeah, the DC area can't cope with even a few inches. It's got to be a mess up there.
We got the storm first in the deep south. Here in Charleston, SC we had downtown streets under 2 feet of water. It rained all day, hard. My neighborhood 20 min. out of the city eventually had all streets leading out completely under water (only to about 8 in., but still). Fortunately my place of employment was understanding about my not showing up Friday -- there was literally no way to get to work safely without a boat.
We have lizards here, too. Lizards are the only thing the cat can catch, and only because they're dumb enough practically to walk into her mouth.
I lived through ten Iowa winters. All of them made the Northeast U.S. winters I knew growing up look pretty wimpy. I don't miss the snow or the cold AT ALL. This December being the wettest in SC since 1941 I could live without, too.
