While on a bicycle ride this past weekend, I came upon these large flowering bushes and just had to stop for some photos. I'm not certain, but I believe these are members of the rose family, Rosa multiflora.
I love the way the stamens "explode" outward from the center like a living firework burst. For those of you who have forgotten your middle school plant biology, the stamens are the male reproductive part of the flower. The stalk is called the filament and the pollen-producing structure on the end is the anther. Collectively, all of the stamens are called the androecium. I am no botanist. I remembered "stamen" but I had to look up the rest.
I shot this closeup with my new macro lens. There was a pretty strong breeze blowing which made it difficult to focus and eliminate motion blur. I cranked up the ISO setting on my camera and shot one of the more brightly lit flowers to help combat that.
