I prefer real oranges to navel oranges, but that's because the seeds don't bother me.

I like to slice oranges, chew the shit out of them, then discard the pulp/skin leftover.

I go about softening a spot with a knuckle then push my thumb tips in and try and pry it open. Granted it's messy, but that's why I drink the juice when it forms. And don't worry about nails being a factor: mine are as bitten as yours.
