Holy crap I never knew about this as a defined phenomenon but I've seen it everywhere.

I think this is something that people just "did" because they're awkward and dunno what to do and THEN people named it X'D, I dunno if "phenomenon" is the right word. It's like not knowing what to do with your hands when giving a speech suddenly, or being awkwardly aware of your tongue in your mouth all the sudden, you just make a face. :'D

Then people realize, haha, look all these lame nerds make the same face, lets' name it. Like a bunch of lame "bitches" making what would become christened "duckface". :"D Lots of folks just resort to the same common idea!
