Now, because both me and another player have never played DH before, and because this all started when the DM [friend] wanted to run a game to introduce us to things? It deviates from normal canon a tad.

Namely that it occurs within the setting of If the Emperor had a Text-to-Speech Device.

Now, in that video series, the Emperor was against the tau because they don't use meele. The farsight enclaves however, do. And in official canon, there is at least one inquisitor already working there/alongside Farsight to protect the region from daemonic incursion.

So, to make our thing fit, we basically had it so the TTS Emperor did a 'We can work with these tau. Use them for our own ends. They will serve our needs'

And in that swoop, the Imperium gains a 'puppet' to base operations against the Tau Empire, more places for the techpriests to oogle tau tech, and more MEATSHIELDS.
