Long warm days and cool summer nights are all Johnny could ever want. Sure, leaving the folks behind to the work pit on the rails in Colorado probably wasn't exactly the best decision he had ever made in life, but he didn't want to live out the rest of his life being treated like a stupid drunk. This was his second chance at life, and he wouldn't look back to the life he left behind.
Being a second generation Irish in that day and time left him to being little more than human labor to most. Few people had much respect for his family and most of the immigrants that came here to the new country to start anew. They were viewed simply as disposable labor that would work hard as long as somebody would pay enough money to keep them liquored up. A fact that not a single of them were happy about.
That was behind him, the frontier plains were something new. Things were a touch rough at first, barely knowing to ride a horse when he arrived, but he toughed it out and really made a place for himself there at the ranch. He had shunned his family name to reflect his new beginnings, and while it was clear the name he had dawned wasn't his own few people cared out here and that in itself brought him comfort.
As he stood in quiet recollection, a sturdy young wolf with a bewildered look approached him, “Umm... Are you Mr. Hawk?” he asked with a clear degree of uncertainly.
With a deep drag from his cigarette and slow exhale he looked to the lost pup, “Sure am kiddo. You're the kid they hired to clean the stables right?”
The wolf gingerly nodded as Johnny motioned to follow, “Don't worry, this place is great. Just keep yourself out of trouble around here kid – thats my job around here.” he says with a tip of the as he turns and sauntered towards the stable barn.
Decided to name him Johnny Hawk. Nothing fancy or spectacular, but fits the scenery rather nicely. Its a somewhat of a comic-book hero name but he likes the way it sounds regardless of how silly it may actually sound to anyone else.
He is a cocky bastard, a liar, and a troublemaker. Though at the same point he can be quite delightful when he wants to be. Johnny is the type that is prone to getting himself into a good bit of trouble here and there, but its *usually* something he can handle himself. Usually.
He hasn't always had a happy life, but is slowly working his way into a more quiet life while it lasts, because life rarely stays simple for long.
