There was a challenge on a discord server, to make an animal out of existing ones, so I googled up a generator and picked 3. [Okapi, Cheetah, Fox] - hence the name. I'm really bad at names
Needless to say I really like the outcome, and I've been thinking a lot about this "species"
So I'm preparing a reference, with fenotypes, behaviors and habitats. Possibly even an anthro version.
This is what I'm thinking about:
They are a small tribe species, of medium intelligence. Carnivores, they hunt on long distances by tire-ing their prey. They can also sprint, if they think they are unnoticed.
Females are a bit larger than males, and just like sea horses, the females give their eggs to the males, which incubate their fetuses and give life birth.
Males compete for the females using displays of power, by hitting their opponents on their necks, which are super fluffy and dense to withstand the hits. They also make a celebratory dance in which they display their long tails.
Females are also very color and pattern suggestive, so the males are usually more colorful.
While the males are gestating, the females separate and hunt together bigger game than usual. Its a very delicate period as some females get killed during hunt, but the rewards are a bigger meal that lasts longer, so they can spend more time together.
Currently, they don't have any predators. But they still need to be careful around some animals.
They like flat outstretched territories, but sometimes you can find them in less dense forests, or along the coastline.
What do you think? Is this species believable? Do you like it, or do you find it gross?

I think he's pretty nice overall! I like the idea of a canine with hooves
I find the transition from the neck to the body a bit sharp (from very fluffy to very short-haired), but it's probably the only thing that bothers me (and I know it's nitpicking at this point), otherwise the colors and patterns are spot-on, and the species as you describe it is very interesting and promising! Great job!

I was thinking a lot about the fur problem too. I guess the neck has to be fluffy for the female competition, but I cannot have the whole body fluffy because they need it short so they can sweat. Hunting tactic is just like humans, to outrun the prey until it's too tired to run, and a longer coat would make heat dispersion too difficult. The other solution would be to add the neck fluff only on mating season, but I think the neck fluff is a nice "look". Maybe I should make the transition more gradual :/ I was also thinking it would be useful as some sort of defense against some prey, but I have to think it up. The combat between males is inspired by giraffes, and they don't need the fluff.
Thank you so much for the feedback!
Also I forgot to add that the tail warps into a tight ball while chasing straight-running prey. The length would create too much drag. :)

Maybe you could just add a line of thick fur on the back of the spine, like some hyenas have? That might just be enough, because, as i've said, everything else is good in my opinion. That would allow you to keep the fluff you already have (which is really cool, by the way) while incorporating it better to the rest of the design. Just an idea I wanted to share with you Don't get overwhelmed by this small thing, really. You've got such a good base with that species, and the fur transition is only a small detail of it
Keep up the great work!
