To be honest, I don't know much about my little brother. I couldn't even tell you where exactly he is, now. He pretty much never said a word while he was living at home. He was super shy, or maybe he had anxiety, or maybe he was just weird. He was sort of more normal when he was really little, like when he was five or younger. He was always quiet but back then he'd still do things like ask for treats, or try and get mom to read to him, or even just try to talk to the rest of us sometimes. Mom and dad argued about him all the time. I assume he knew, everyone else did, they weren't quiet about it. After a while it seemed like all he ever did was sit in his room, reading. He stopped talking almost entirely, sometimes I'd hear him say 'excuse me' or something while walking by and be startled at how I never noticed his voice changing over time. It wasn't even really like having another sibling, it was just like this kid who rented a room, upstairs. We all just kind of got used to it. It wasn't until around the time I was going to graduate that I noticed. I remember I was telling him that dinner was ready and he just looked up from his book and said 'okay.' I don't know why but just right then I realized that I had no idea who he was, that I never really got to know him. But by then, it seemed like there was hardly anyone left in there to know.

The drawing captures a lot about his personality, his ability to focus and tune things out.
Very poignant passage, too. I feel like his siblings are as much to blame as his parents for not embracing him. They were closer to the same age and should've banded together. Though whichever sibling is voicing this one seems to think that their parents alienated him so badly that he would've pushed away his siblings if they had tried. But maybe they gave up too easily.

Thanks for the comment. His siblings probably felt awkward trying to get close to someone who is seen by the parents as a negative element. Coupled with his naturally introverted ways, they just learned to ignore the situation. So while the parents actively resent him, the siblings aren't so much hostile as just uninvolved. I think it's a household where everyone essentially learned to watch their own back.
I'm hoping to get some stories posted soon involving this character and his boyfriend. I'm working on 3, concurrently. If you're interested in the first one, which is a Q&A format about the boyfriend, Jeffery, regarding his retirement from his adult film career, you can check it out here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20958317/
It's short and the format makes it an easier read, less committal. Fun fact, I had to retcon it some before posting this comment as it was written long before Julius (the guy above) was anything more than just Jeffery's vaguely mentioned love interest, and what little was mentioned of him portrayed a very different character.
