Blacktail's Third trip to the Boonies! (Part 37)
These are foothills of the Sierras, just west of Bishop.
Notice how they appear as though they were simply sediment, boulders, and rocks dumped into huge heaps? That;s EXACTLY what they are!
These hills are a "Glacial Moraine" --- basically, all the stuff the glaciers rip out of mountains, hills, and the ground, and carry great distances in their ice. When the glaciers thaw (mostly in a certain area), the matter that was mixed into the ice piles-up, forming a Moraine.
Even to this day, in the MUCH warmer Cenozoic Era, there are still glaciers in the Sierras.
