I just can't get over that phone. It's like an installation piece you'd find at the Hirshhorn. And it's red. And enormous. And British. I'm in love.

I remember when The Prisoner first aired in the United States: if I recall correctly (I might be wrong!) , it replaced The Jackie Gleason Show, and I remember, as a child, expecting to see Ralph Kramden and seeing, instead, this... this utterly bizarre, utterly compelling... whatever it was.
I've loved it ever since. =D

As a child, I was terrified by Rover, and I dreaded every appearance.
But now I admire the elegant simplicity of the concept, and the way in which the monster fits right into the design aesthetic of the Village in the same way that the phones do: notice how the shape of the phones is "echoed" by the rotating scanning device in the control room, just as the shape of Rover is echoed in Number Two's office.
Very simple, very consistent, very cool.
