It's been a big year for Wagner Vaughters. Picked second to last in the FBA Draft, the coyote found himself the bench point guard for the league's most dominant team and playing next to his idol, All-Star coyote power forward Charles Yotechuk. Even more, just two and a half weeks into the season, the starting point got sick with the flu and Wags had to start his first game against the fearsome Montana Howlers. The little coyote played with everything he had and helped his team keep their undefeated record. But after the game, Shane Rufus, the Howlers' reserve point who had been kept off the floor that game, threatened the young rookie during a snarling press conference.
The next day at practice, Yotechuk gathered the other canids on the team, swift fox Jake Velox and dhole Vincent Wei, and chatted with Wags, both to tell him what a great job he'd done and that Rufus' threat meant nothing.
"When I was a rookie, Fang said the same thing to me," Yotechuk told the young coyote, reassuring him. "And then three years later, he got traded from Plymouth and we ended up on the Howlers together!"
"Really?" Wags said. "Was that weird?"
"Yeah, it was weird at first. But I learned something. You never know who you're going to play with down the road, just like neither of us knew we would be wearing Mayors jerseys. And that's why you never talk like that about anyone. You play with your team, no matter who they are, no matter what's been said, and you play your hardest every day like you did. Rufus needs to learn that. But some guys never learn."

Chuck-Chuk is a real champ. Unlike Zip-Nut or Buck Hopper, when Yotechuk first arrived in the FBA, drafted by the Howlers, he was an unremarkable player. So unremarkable, the Howlers were willing to give him up for Lewis Lachler and Lance Cheval when the Thrust were desperate to get the horse off their team. And then Yotechuk improved his game so much under Von Wasser, the Sauce were able to trade him back for both Jack Howell and Chrys Brachy. He's one of the most improved players in the FBA, and one who certainly earned his All-Star status.
And he's a great, friendly guy-- which has some reporters suspecting the reason the Howlers were willing to give him up was not just for draft picks and Jeff Random. But because the coyote didn't like playing under Shane Rufus' vicious style.

Meanwhile, Jeff Random has no problem at all with the Howler's style. In fact, he got Rufus to laugh during the December 12 RMR/MON game, where he got so pissed off with Mosquito that he tried to dunk the shrew to teach him a lesson. And during the Christmas Day brawl, he gladly went after Bruce Bounder, clocking the hare with a beer bottle.
The Howlers are making Jeff Random blossom... by bringing out the worst in him.
