I don't really think it's fair to base all werewolves off of 1 werewolf movie. Also, I remember the pentagram being made out of stars and upside down. Last I checked an upside down pentagram was more a sign of satanism, hence them hinting that he was possessed by a demon which turned him into the wolf man. Turning into a wolf man was considered a curse.
