On Deviantart all three ofthese pics were part of the Obscuri-Art Jam I did taking very obscure characters from past and present toons and letting them have another chance to shine once again.

All three pics came from DePatie/Freleng Animation studios; who were mostly known for their work on The Pink Panther.
Most of what they made was straight up knock-offs of existing shows, movies and recycled Looney Tunes gags.
But nevertheless the character designs were fascinating. In particular their dog people designs; which look like they existed in the same world Goofy-like dog people live in....only in the 70's.
The two cartoons represented here are The Barkleys (a dog version of All in the Family and The Honeymooners) and The Oddball Couple (A...yes..anthro version of the Odd Couple.)
The entire Barkley family is present; with the father Arnie Barkley present in both pics representing them. What sticks out is his voice actor Henry Corden; and how he basically sounds like a dog version of Fred Flintstone.
Like Fred Flintstone he also had a fairly hot wife; the red haired poodle bringing cookies name Agnes.
Their three kids are present with Chester begging for cookies, Roger just lounging in his dad's chair while Arnie demands he turn off that "Garbage music" and their daughter Terry at the bottom left (and hard left) championing for Womens' Rights while Arnie sulks in the background disapprovingly.
To her right is the dog girl from the other show; The Oddball Couple. The dimmer blonde girl: Goldie Hound. And yes it's a pun on Goldie Hawn much like in the BG the cat and dog duo are Felix and Oscar from The Odd Couple.
It was a fun little exercise in reviving the obscure. For some reason I get a bit more of a rise exercising my creativity with characters very few people know about.
They COULD make for future art fodder; but I'm not sure I wanna open up those floodgates. :P
Sometimes it's best to "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie" so to speak.
Well that peer into my madness complete onwards to finishing up more commissions.

I've never seen a full episode of The Barkleys, but I do remember seeing the entire run of The Oddball Couple.
Too bad the other studios didn't hold up as well as Hanna Barbara. Once in a while their programs will pop up in syndication for after school programing from small local stations.

Funny I discovered The Barkleys on YouTube first and then The Oddball Couple.
Yeah I imagine since the copyright on these toons no longer exists small stations air them Saturday mornings now n then. And yeah it's a shame some animation studios don't last long enough to hold up. Ah well, leave it to an avid artist to dig up the lost saga of DFE xD
