attempting to get my garden in working order and I spotted these delightful sonsabitches sprooting right out of the concrete of my back porch making frens with some bricks and pine needles. Your location might be some hint. Mostly the climate, what likes to grow where, etc. Flower scale is important too, but the presence of the needles helps. It definitely looks like a dog violet, though. They're a collection of similarly looking Viola species, and a few are American natives.
