I was thinking The Bob Newhart Show (1972 - 1978, where he played psychologist Dr. Robert Hartley) or Bob (1992 - 1993, playing comic artist Bob McKay). He basically started a new show every ten years.
You're right, though, on Newhart (1982 - 1987) he played a character named Dick Loudon, a travel and DIY book author/TV show host. That's actually where the 'Larry, Darryl and their other brother Darryl' joke comes from.
