This started as painting homework, now its turned into a full fledged project. And I'm having tons of fun with it. There will certainly be more on this later.
Anywho, this is part of my Gryphons of the World project. One of my teachers in incredibly enthusiastic about it, he wants me to turn it into a whole section for my portfolio.
This particular one is a Bob-Tailed Gryphon. The most common breed in North America, they are generally docile, and will sometimes even seek the company of humans. Some have even "adopted" human families and are kept as house pets, in a sense, though they come and go as they please. Males bear the mottled rust, sand, and grey colors, while females are generally just a sandy brown with darker spots along the wings, back and legs. The size of a medium sized dog, these gryphons prey on vermin, mostly mice and rabbits. They are mostly found on the plains, in forested areas, and in the desert. They have been found in mountainous areas, but don't tend to travel very high.
Done in Watercolors on cold press illustration board.
