Because Chevy LS/LT blocks are relatively inexpensive for create engines, and heresy. Pure heresy. But to be a little more factual it's because LS/LT make goobs of power easily, a smidge lighter then a 13B turbo long block. Often LS swapped FC's and FD's get used in US Formula Drift for the engines ability to take lots abuse.
