Lies! You actually CAN get them all now! Pokemon aren't limited to ones only given WAY back in the day. You can aquire quite a lot from the modern games today and only have to play the most recent ones like Sun and Moon, and Omega Ruby and Sapphire to get them :p
Also, they do have a fire cat starter and a fire fox starter that you could always name Ash :p
I know you would enjoy X and Y a lot as it involves a lot of medieval lore with cutscenes similar to your art style :p
