Axel is promising his younger sister that he'll never abandon her, or let anyone harm her ever again.

These 2 are our Xmen oc's and they're originally from Germany and had an abusive father who even tried to sell them to an anti mutant company to well, to not get into gorey detail, do some horrible things to "cure" them of their "illness".
Axel has the capability to control shadows but is incapable of dealing with light touching his skin without burning, same goes for August, but reversed. She is capable of manipulating light waves but is incapable of being in a dark room without some form of a light source near by or else she will pretty much freeze. Eventually the two escaped Germany by hiding in a boat heading to the good ol' US of A. where they'd live a few months up to a year in absolute poverty trying to hide their mutant powers until they eventually meet some fellow mutants from Xavier's school for gifted children and August enrolled whilst Axel being her guardian stayed with the adults and helped around the manor
