I've never been able to see much difference with a half stop myself so I usually go by time rather than stops. Since the collodion changes so much with age I'll run a test plate or two to find my best black and best white for that day. Then I'll try to keep the f-stop the same and vary the timing. I run into trouble with that method is when the collodion is really fast and the light is bright, then I'll usually kick it up a stop or two and adjust exposure time as needed. I also mitigate some by cutting back on the dev time, I try to keep it at 15 to 20 seconds but I'll wash quicker when I see the shadows developing too fast. Temperature really matters too. When it gets really hot (90F or better) I'll cut the time in the silver by as much a a full minute and dilute the developer.
