Yay my first submission here. This is my 'sona, Boq. She's a jackal/antelope mix, so in a sense, she's a "Jackal-ope," haha! xD Well, I thought it was funny.
Regardless, this is my first colored piece of her, done with colored pencil and outlining pen... I'm still waffling over colors, but I'm starting to grow a fondness for the color scheme. Anyway, the colorful, abstracty parts were greatly inspired by this girl in my art class... she uses designs like that a lot in her works, and blue/green/purple, so I thought I'd give it a try. I honestly thought it was a lot of fun to do!
But I'll stop now before my comment becomes too ridiculously long. But, hello again everyone! I look forward to submitting more work here. <3

Wow, I just realised that they did it in pencil o.o; I agree with you, Bonus, it's pretty awesome how they did that o: I can't get an even/thick colour, but that might be because of the pencils I use? They're some weird Japanese ones that come out kind of pastelly and gross. Suggestions?
I've noticed that the paper really matters for CP's. I really only have access to cheap printer paper. You can't blend on it, holes in the color show up. The pencil definitely matter too. Most people prefer Prisma color pencils. I have a healthy mix of those and crayola. The crayolas make me rage lol but I've seen people do a lot with a little, it just takes time and practice to explore what you can do with your materials.
Yup, it really has to do with paper and pencil brand, like Bonus said. I almost exclusively use Prismacolor, and I only really use other brands if nothing else is available. They're nice because they are soft with strong color, unlike Crayola and other "none artist grade" brands that are very hard with weak colors.
Paper also makes a huge difference, but you can definitely work around paper type more than quality of the pencils, I feel. I actually did this on a type of paper made especially for pens and markers. The paper is very slick and great for blending markers, but... not great for pencils, especially not colored pencils. But I was able to work around that, tweak the way I colored, and I don't think it turned out half bad. :D
Anyway, hope that was some help to you! Sorry for rambling. :'D;;

I'll look for the marker version as well~! I love your art, Boq
-Surprise hug attacks walks away awkwardly- o.o;.....
And Bonus; Thanks for the tip on pencils ;D I'm not exactly experienced with the whole colouring, or even drawing biz, for that matter. I only really became interested in seriously doing art maybe... 2 or 3 years ago and haven't practised as much as I could've ^^; I wasn't aware paper made a difference, I've been blaming my poor pencils and my own lacking ability (Which still probably has most to do with it...) for messing up my pictures. I'll get some new sketchpads and those Prismacolour pencils next time I go to store
Thanks!
