So what we have here is an update to some designs for a character who's quickly stolen the hearts of many of my friends and watchers; Zephyr the Zorgoia. I'd been wanting to get some more of him for a while including an official sheet, and managed to get no other than the species creator herself to do this piece for me. Safe to say it came out absolutely perfectly.
This artwork and the species creator is
CorrieZodori, who deserves every bit of praise that can be given.
Zephyr belongs to me.
And as for the other stuff:
Changes:
- Zephyr's overall body shape has been updated to be consistent with how Zorgoia are normally drawn, including the "bunny" nose and better mixing of his fur colors.
- He is now at least 50% more actively fluffy and cuddly.
- Throat glow is now a darker purple to offset the pastel purple of his mouth and fur (Since it's flats and actively darkens it's hard to tell, but it IS glow, not just a color change).
- Added an Ankh tattoo and jewelry to sorta tease into his Egyptian-themed origins and nature.
- Reduced the amount of "Hook" on his stinger to make it so that it looks like it opens much easier.
And for character details
Zephyr is a strange individual with a stranger nature. Nobody knows where he came from or how he got to where he is in life, inquiring will lead to every individual story being different (though most lead back to Zephyr himself). The most plausible story of the Zorgoia's origins is that he was born and grew up a mortal, eventually finding a taste for deceit, tricks and pranks, as well as a massive love of freedom and habit of kicking up massive parties wherever he wanders to.
Tales of how he became a minor deity range from partying so hard it destroyed a kingdom, to nearly causing a war amongst gods with an incredibly efficient and well-laid-out prank. Regardless of what he actually did however, his godhood was something he was gifted with instead of born with or awoken to, or that he was so effective in his role as "Trickster" that the universe actively rewrote itself, and it decisively changed his nature from the normal to the strange.
As a trickster, Zephyr is naturally unpredictable and hard to read. One minute he might be happily spiraling through the air and the next he may be digging pitfall traps to laugh when passerby stumble. Curiously, Zephyr's approach to pranking seems to stay relatively harmless, with an approach that it's not funny if the victim can't laugh at it in hindsight like he laughs at it when it occurs. This paradoxical mix of pranks but minding himself is what lead to him being "lent" his tattoos. He's flighty and easily distracted, and it's almost impossible to tell if anything he's doing had been laid out as a long plan, or if he's acting purely on impulse. He's at his most aggressive when hungry, as a Zorgoia he unhesitatingly devours humanoid prey for sustenance to revive them later, his mix of aggressive cuddlyness and smooth words makes ensnaring prey easy, and even if they don't fall for his cute charms and sweet words, he doesn't hesitate to eat them anyway, as it turns it into another prank for him since they're scared but will ultimately be fine.
Speaking purely of his abilities, Zephyr is heavily associated with the element of wind, and was even as a mortal a strong wind-harnessing mage, which helped him seed many pranks without having to physically touch them. He's quickest to use his magic to grant himself flight and hardly ever walks because of that, as well his method of flight is to put on a "shell" of wind deep under his fluffy coat, which makes him mostly immune to any type of physical projectile as the wind turns it away from him.
As a Trickster god, Zephyr can also call upon chaotic magics. These magics manifest in what can almost be called "cartoon" gags; Zephyr can cross great distances in a snap, but only if he's not being actively viewed by someone, his chest fur (and his belly) is possessive of a hammerspace that can fit things or people that are much larger than he is, and sometimes he'll pull out objects that it's convenient for him - at the moment - to possess, such as pulling out a hammer if he needs to pound a stake, even if he didn't previously store a hammer in his fur. Attacking him with intent to harm tends to just result in cartoon gags, such as being squished flat and floating off paper-thin, being cut in pieces resulting in Zephyrs of reduced size, and water comically springing out of holes if something stabs him.
And naturally as a Zorgoia the strengths of his species are also present. Zephyr's tall at 6"5' and long at 13" from snout to tail. His body under the fluff is packed with dense muscle and a stretchy spine that lets him nearly triple his length and coil wrap things he sees as prey. Inside the scorpion-stinger shaped tail cap is a small, deep purple barb that delivers a payload of his toxin to any stung victims. His venom is a paralytic that comes with a minor mind-altering effect, making prey docile and cuddly. He's been known to use his venom for its intended purpose of devouring humanoid prey to reform them later, though he's also guilty of using it to cuddle people he thinks are cute but might not trust him.
His tattoos also bare mention. For his oddly benevolent nature in spite of his chaotic personality (and perhaps a brush with them) he was granted the favor of two Egyptian gods (which lends credence to the theory his origins are also Egyptian). The Wadjet tattoo around his eye was granted to him by the god Horus and contributes greatly to Zephyr's magical powers when he's using them protectively for himself or others, to the point of warping reality past his normal limitations of snap-teleporting and hammerspace. If Zephyr decides that he likes someone, the tattoo's power mixed with his own chaotic magic has even been known to manipulate luck to bring them good fortune.
The second tattoo is the Ankh, symbol of life gifted by another god that is hard to identify. Though this is a less-utilized ability of his the magic, the Ankh makes it so that if he happens across someone wounded, the makeup of his toxin instead changes to a healing brew - signified by the color changing from purple to green - that encourages rapid healing of wounds. Though this also a bit of a curse for him, as reforming humanoid prey is now something he can no longer control and will happen 100% of the time even against his will, meaning a foe who's earned enough ire to come to lethal blows with the Zorgoia will have to be dealt with in ways other than eating them. His genuine annoyance when this is pointed out or discussed suggests it was an unintended consequence of accepting the Warden of Life's blessing.
