to be honest, most times the retro-spacesuits from the 20's and 30's were nothing like functional, being too thin and leaving bare skin open to potentially hostile environments. and bubble helmets without shades against unfiltered UV-rays, etc. so you could peg them costumes as well.
my general idea with the spacesuit as seen above is that first, the live-support systems are so micro they fit in the collar and can be distributed along parts of the suit, and the bubble helmet is actually a force-sphere. they found

my general idea with the spacesuit as seen above is that first, the live-support systems are so micro they fit in the collar and can be distributed along parts of the suit, and the bubble helmet is actually a force-sphere. they found some ancient aliens' technology somewhere, and among the few things they could make work, analyze, and replicate was a force field projector the size of a walnut. problem is, after a certain size the energy consumption climbs into epic proportions, so they have to stop around the size of a medicine ball with it. it makes the force field thus only suitable for helmets and to protect smaller devices from radiation and physical forces.
the suit now, is adjusted to the wearer, and putting it on someone else would require so much readjusting and replacing pieces it's cheaper to create a new one. which means if you join the space fleet, you join for life. and you better learn to walk in high heels, too. :)

I didn't expect for you to be giving such a detailed explanation as to how it would work, but I am amazed that you did and I thank you for it.
Because I am so conditioned to think of a properly functional spacesuit as being similar to their real world counterparts, especially in the 50s and 60s, where they closely resemble modern-day spacesuits in their form and function, with attention to things like oxygen supply, temperature control, and anti-radiation measures.
If I must say, the thing that would concern me the most here is how her tail is just out in the open like that.
Then again, we are talking about a fictional scenario here. :p

Surprising to me just how knowledgeable on the subject you happen to be... and this is coming from someone who writes retro-futuristic themed historical fiction.
Just a few more things I want to add into this is the fact that she is at a disadvantage with not being able to use her teeth in the event she does get into a fight with an alien and also the laser gun she is carrying, does it have enough power (as I would liken it to a pistol)?

oh, I have only read a couple books I happened to catch on a discount bin... :) but they were fun to read, either way. a lot of it depends on how good a storyteller the author is.
but I guess you're fully aware of that. ^^
it's not only that she can't use her teeth, using claws is also out of the question. also, high heels...
the laser gun is supposed to have the same power level of a tricorder, but on full power the battery will be down quickly, of course. you're not supposed to go to war with a side weapon. :)
her communicator is a bit like a tricorder, too, only that it can't shoot rays to hurt, or destroy. detecting live forms is also depending on the database; what hasn't been detected before falls under the "It's life, Jim, but not as we know it!" cathegory.
both are fastened to her by micro-gravitation generators in certain spots on her upper legs, where you'd assume a holster being located. you can use force to remove them, or the wearer releases them.

First thing I want to say is that I love the color pink and the next, and most important thing is how you accomplished to give her suit that vintage science fiction look to it, like something from the late 40s, entirety of the 50s, into the early 60s.
You should design costumes more often.
