In Chipmunk culture, there are very few things held more sacred than trust. In the funeral rites, the highest act of trust is to be the torch barer whom lights the funeral pyre and in turn frees the spirit of the deceased from the bonds of mortality and sends it off to Eternity. An aging chipmunk will choose only the most trusted individual, usually a close friend or relative for the task.
Here Tamias solemnly says his last good byes to a fallen comrade, moments before setting the Funeral Pyre alight.
