After a while you start to smile, now you feel cool
Then you decide to take a walk by the old school
Nothing has changed, it's still the same
I've got nothing to say but it's okay
Lately I've been very taken with simpler, more toony styles of the likes of artdevnull and Scotty Arsenault. And in keeping with my nostalgic mood I thought I'd revisit this pair.
I'd have given my other arm to be able to draw like this in 2001, and it's nice to be able to in 2009. Persistence (or at least, a mulish refusal to put away childish things) brings rewards.

Is it necessarily a refusal to put away childish things, or simply an act of seeing how your current self reacts to those childish things -- and perhaps, by way of it, those things are allowed to grow a little bit and not remain in the realm of childish?
Art is art, anyway, no matter what age you are or what you consider it.
Either way, I do love these two. This style seems to give them a touch of innocence that I haven't seen in your work in a while (you *were* mentioning childish things), which makes me smile.

There's a chapter in Families and How to Survive Them about how stuffed toys, as 'transitional objects', help children to mature; it has a cartoon showing a man with a Playboy bunny on his arm remarking, '"When I became a man, I put away childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11 ... Got myself bigger rabbits.' (While she thinks 'Get stuffed.')
Basically, I only ever quote that phrase in irony. You're quite right: you never put away childish things, you grow around them like a crystal around a particle. And if you think you've got rid of them and can't return to them sometimes, you're in trouble.

Well, when she first appeared all the way back when the strip was called Tooth & Claw her muzzle was in serious danger of putting someone's eye out. ;)
This pic made me dig out my Bohemials archive last night and reread the whole thing. Despite the intervening years I still quite enjoyed it.

Yes and no. Actually resurrecting Bohemials is out of the question, I'm afraid (having the two main characters split up and living in different continents, and no idea what else I'd do with it). The odd one-off strip set in the midst of that story wouldn't be, but I'd have to be particularly tickled by an idea.
However. Sibyl is due to turn up in my new comic (post events of Bohemials). She's not the focus of attention, but she will be important.

It's great to see them again. The style reminds me of the so-called "pasted-one eyes", which I liked because it gave your characters thoughtful expressions. Also, this cartoonish approach works very well with your colouring technique, and the mix of the two is quite original.
Alex looks just like the original; shy and easily confused, while Sybil seems a lot more cheerful than before. Anyway, I love this!
