*BEGIN FLASHBACK*
Dingodile opened slowly his eyes.
And regretted it.
For he was in an absolute void.
Black all around him, no ground, no sky, no anything.
"Whuh... Where am I? That's hell or something?" he stammered.
"This is not hell."
Dingodile turned around at this unknown voice, coming out of nowhere.
And saw in shock a floating mask in the air, in the shape of a flame.
"What the?! Who are you?!"
"My name is Py-Ro. And we are, to answer your previous question, in your mind."
"My... mind?! I'm not dead?!"
"No. Heavily wounded, but not dead."
"And how the hell can you get in my mind?!"
Fire appeared around the mask, out of nowhere.
"I am the Elemental of Fire. Flames are my dominion and follow my will. And you are now laying in my prison."
"Your... prison?" repeated warily Dingodile.
"That accursed Aku-Aku locked me in here. For I wanted to see the world burn in flames."
Dingodile started to understand and see where this was going.
"The spectacle of seeing things turn in ash, crumble... There is nothing more powerful and beautiful. And you share this feeling. I know it, we're in your mind, I saw what you are."
Yup, that's exactly going the way I guessed... thought the hybrid.
"You falling here, is a chance for both of us," continued the mask, hiding the fact that he caused Dingodile's fall into the temple. "For I can offer you a deal. Find my body and wear it. Become my host and free me. In return, I will grant you my power. Fire will be yours, more than it ever was. And together, we will watch the world burn. I will not ask you if you accept, for I already know your answer..."
"Well you guessed wrong," interrupted Dingodile.
A stunned silence was the first answer of the mask.
"What?!" was the second answer.
"You heard right, mate! My answer's a big fat NO!"
"But... Why?!" stammered Py-Ro, completely caught off guard. "Destruction by fire is what you want!"
"It's what I wanted! If you had read me better, you would have found out something put me off it!"
Py-Ro stammered.
"And besides, even before that something, I'd have said no! Because okay, burn the world, nice, great. And then what?! Sooner or later, there'd have been nothing left! Nothing to burn! Except myself! And suicide, I'm very strongly against it!"
Py-Ro stammered a bit more... And then twisted in a hateful, cruel expression, as flames exploded all around him.
"Because you think I'm giving you a choice?!" he spat. "Either you accept, either I kill you, the soul, and claim your body as my own!"
Dingodile paled.
"So?" smirked sadistically the monster. "What option will it be? A or B?"
His smirk grew, as he expected the hybrid to pathetically backpedal, or face annihilation with this stupidity called honor.
He did not expect him to charge forward and punch him, wiping the smirk off.
"How about C: YOU DIE!!" roared Dingodile.
Again caught off guard, Py-Ro didn't react immediately as Dingodile punched and clawed him the strongest he could.
But the mask quickly got a grip, and with nary but a thought engulfed his opponent's arm in flames.
Dingodile desperately held back a cry of terror, and kept clobbering. He had to kill that bastard immediately or...
Wait.
His arm was in fire.
His entire right arm was engulfed in flames.
So why wasn't he in pain?!
The two opponents stared in shock at these flames, that were visibly burning, yet didn't consume the arm, didn't even singe the fur.
It lasted a while.
And then, Dingodile started laughing.
A little chuckle at first, that grew and swelled until it became a full-blown laughter.
"What's so funny?!" yelled angrily Py-Ro.
Dingodile didn't answer immediately, he was still laughing himself sick.
Finally, he calmed down.
"So," he began, "being a sadistic asshole, that ain't my gig anymore. And yet, I still love burning stuff, watching flames dance, I still love it. And it made me sick. I thought I was condemned to stay a monster even though I didn't want it anymore. Until that little mate made me realize something, just before we meet. I don't like destroying by fire anymore. But I still like fire itself. For its wildness and violence, but also for its light and warmth. For its good and its bad. For everything. He made me realize I can still be a pyromaniac, and that's okay. I just don't have to be a wanker about it."
Py-Ro didn't answer.
"But you, you like fire for its destruction, and nothing else," smirked the hybrid. "That's why your flames can't hurt me. That's what's so funny. I'm more attuned to fire than you!"
Terror and panic filled the mask, as he realized it was true.
"No... NO!!" he yelled. "I'M THE ELEMENTAL OF FIRE!! I AM FIRE ITSELF!! YOU ARE NOTHING!! I WILL DESTROY YOU!! I WILL TAKE YOUR BODY!!"
The psychopathic spirit engulfed himself in a monstrously gigantic fireball.
"I WILL END YOU!!!!" he screamed, completely breaking down, before charging at his opponent.
An opponent who calmly stood his ground, drew back his fist, and punched with all his strength, at the right moment.
The flames vanished in nothingness.
The mask began cracking, breaking.
"That's MY line, mate," smirked triumphantly Dingodile.
The mask fully broke.
And in a last scream of hatred, rage, impotence and terror, Py-Ro died.
