...of course this is where they should actually just step outside and shake-flutter alla them excess droplets out as much as possible before applying too many more towels.... (then again, the bird is learning and this art makes it worth saving the fluttering lesson for another time) :D

That is not quite chemically correct. Soap does not brake down oils. Soap bonds oil molecules to water molecules. Since oils like to bond to dirt that is how you wash dirt away. The dirt sticks to the oil then the soap bonds the oil to the water and the water washes the dirt and oil away.
