Judging by the books, Brian Jaques really hated foxes. All the other "vermin" species had at least one redeeming member, but there was not a single fox that wasn't single mindedly working to destroy everything around them just for the sake of it.

Mr. Jacques wasn't entirely consistent with the sizes of the various characters to begin with. This was most noticeable between the first novel and the later stories, as he also seemed to drop any reference to human activity (e.g. the horse and cart).
