The start of the first sub boss story
The sun set over the dessert as the Shanty sand pirates traveled across the sand with their sand sails. “The winds are dying down sir and we are near the end of the dessert. We better call it a day and head back home.” One of the gecko men said. “We are not going home until we find that human. He made a fool of me and destroyed one of our sand sails. I will not rest till I have my vengeance.” The leader said as he ran his long tongue over his saber sword.
“Hundo, with all due respect, the human has to be dead by now. The lack of water and the heat of the sun must have killed him by…” Hundo quickly pulled his sword to the other Shantys throat. “Then I shall have his dried up shriveled head. I will not leave these desserts empty handed.”
“HUNDO!” a Shanty cried from another sand sail. “Something big is coming up…”They all looked forward to see something large block out the sun. “Everyone stop!” The sand riding ships slid to a halt. They all stared at the large object in amazement. “What is it?”
“It’s a tree you idiot…A Weeping Willow to exact.” Hundo said climbing out wooden boat. “The question is why is it here?” He stepped over the criss-crossing roots the hand against the tree. “What’s wrong sir?” He continued to look at it. “This can’t be here…I’ve been in this dessert all my life. This tree looks to be a hundred years old. And yet I never seen it…”
“Well if there is plants there must be water!” One Shanty shouted. “Come on everyone, grab a shovel and start digging at its roots!” The lizard men cheered and grabbed there shovels from the boats. They all ran towards the tree. “There! Go for that one, it’s the biggest root! It must be where all the water is!” They all gathered around the tree and furiously dug at its roots.
Hundo turned around and shouted “Stop you idiots! We don’t know what this thing…” he was suddenly stopped when there was a loud crack, like a thunder, that came from inside the tree. Everyone stopped and looked up at the tree.
The ground suddenly shifted as a bulge of sand shot from the tree and towards the sand sailors. One of the boats cascaded in to the ground. Another was launched in to the air, with a fellow Shanty on it, and crashed it to the final boat.
There was a long moment of silence. “H-Hundo, what should we do?” Before their leader could answer, the lizard man who asked the question was sucked in to the ground as if the ground actually swallowed him up. Mass panic spread through the crowd as they another one was sucked in to the ground.
One by one they disappeared in to the sand till Hundo was left. A fit of giggles were heard nearby. “You shouldn’t have tried to take what was yours…” A voice that sounded like it came from a little girl. Hundo pulled out his saber. “Where are you!?”
Roots shot out of the ground and wrapped around his legs. He chopped at the roots but more came out of the ground and wrapped around his arms and tail and began to pull him in. His struggles were in vain. Soon, nothing but his head was sticking out of the desert sand. He heard more giggles nearby. He faced towards the noise to find a tiny dragon staring at him.
“Welcome to the bottom of the food chain…” The little dragon said as his head disappeared under the sand he once rode across his entire life.
