Species Details:
Lunar dragons are a relatively rare race of silver dragons whose power is linked to the moon and the night. Of ancient and forgotten origins, their celestial power seems to originate from light, especially that of the moon, but it seems they can draw power from other sources of light too. This has lead to many misconceptions, due to the apparent darkening the surrounding world as they absorb light being seen as "dark". On the countrary, lunar dragons tend to be pacifists that try to avoid unnecessary conflict and keep an open mind at all times. Flights of lunar dragons still exist, but their members are usually very indipendent one from each other and it's not uncommon to meet solitary individuals.
Despite their usually friendly attitude, lunar dragons are dangerous when provoked: their unnaturally high affinity to the magical arts and the mystical properties of the fire they breathe can pose a great threat, even when used defensively. Silver flames will burn almost anything, including magic itself, and not even lunar dragons themselves understand exactly how their mystical breath works.
The characteristic wings are never the same for two dragons, but often siblings will have similar patterns; usually, the color will emulate the colors of the sky, usually at night, and "constellation" patterns are the most common. In rare cases, some dragons may show similar patterns on other parts of the body.

Zaylex's main form is feral, and he's old enough to have reached a considerable size for the standard of his species, reaching 25 meters from the head to the tip of the tail. However, as a wandering dragon who loves to travel and meet other cultures, he often finds himself comfortable in a more manageable anthropomorfic form, obtained through a little bit of magic. While in that form, his size and build aren't fixed and he can slightly shift them as he pleases. He'll usually be around 2.40 m tall, rarely going any less than 2.

Zaylex's characteristic wing pattern involves black lightning-shaped tendrils slowly propagating from the edges of the wings. The same reversed pattern, however, can be found on his hands, paws and tail, where glowy lightning veins run on a blackened, ashen grey skin. This particular mutation was magically induced as a side effect of chronic overuse of magic. The veins will glow of different colors depending on the nature of the channeled energy, and if too much energy is used the scales will start to darken until they become obsidian black.

Endlessly curious, Zaylex loves studying and learning: his preferred field is - of course - spellcasting, but he shows great interest in science too and will read almost any book he can find on the topic. His magical knowledge is especially great, having learnt (or at least tried to) a lot of different spells and enchantments. While mostly introvert and shy at first, he will easily open up when it comes to showing off his knowledge. He tends to dislike being surrounded by people, finding more comfort in small groups. Get him to talk, and if you're nice company he'll hardly stop. He's very patient, but has a very nasty personality when you get on his wrong side: he'll become cynical and analytic, and finds very subtle ways of making others pay for their mistakes.

Powers and abilities:
- Light absorption: he can feed off light to gain power(and also periodically has to). Any light source will do, but sunlight will harm him if absorbed in great quantity and artificial light (except fire) will make him sick. Moonlight is the preferred source, and does not have any side effects, but depending on the lunar phase, his magic will likely match the lunar cycle: some spells will be stronger during a full moon and weakest during a new moon and vice versa. Provided he has fed on enough moonlight, he won't feel any need to sleep until the days of a new moon.

- Shapeshifting: he can shift to an anthropomorfic form and adjust its size, but his physical strenght will match his new form.

- Silver fire breath weapon: he can breathe silver flames, which burn almost anything (including magic) and seem to follow the dragon's unconscious will.

- Magic: Zaylex is very adept at casting magic, and has learn many spells during his life. He thinks that magic defies all standardization and should be seen as a whole, not as different kinds. Some of his spells involve: manipulation of elements (mostly fire, air and lightning), enchanting places, people or objects through complex incantations, hide things or people to sight and all senses, casting illusions, hypnotize people and animals to sleep, imbue magical light to cast other magic or materialize shadows to do his will. Some of this magic comes from the common knowledge of his species (the "light" and "dark" parts), some others he learnt by himself, and even the means to cast them vary greatly from simply willing an element to do his bidding, to speaking or writing an incantation, to performing long and complex rituals.
