Argos was the Chief Minister of the Intelligence Army in the Mikene Empire and one of the principal antagonist of the series along with the Great General of Darkness and later The Great Marshall of Hell. He was an ally of the late Archduke Gorgon and Creator and Mentor of Marquis Janus. He considered the Beast Cleo as his daughter, and was upset for her destruction, though this is not fully seen. As Chief of Intelligence, Argos and his faction, held his own contingency of Warrior Beasts, who were not affiliated to the Military Branch.
Argos was a massive Humanoid Cyborg, Dark Blue and Green Blue in color, wearing an armor with a skirt, with two sharp red plates on the chest. The Cyborg's head was covered with a long white hair and beard, with red plates and a sharp blade on top, and was adorn with horns and antennas. His upper Body was a large computer which store massive amounts of data. His real face was in the left arm, it was also bearded, with a mustache, it was red in color and had black stripes on it and position on the top of its cane, which double as a long beard. While Argos was not meant for Battle, and rarely commanded in the field, he had some sword fighting ability, his Beard cane serve as his only weapon and it was strong enough to hold its own with the sword of the Great General.
Argos, and his allies, would use the knowledge of their Intelligence gathering to formulate the best strategies to achieve Victory, rather than the Full Brute force the Military Branch was known for, therefor served as Adviser to all the Commanders in the Operations when the Generals ran out of options, or was under direct order of the Emperor. Despite this, his Strategies would fail to destroy Great Mazinger and this often led to direct confrontation with the Military Branch, at points fighting the Great General himself, which were only stopped by the Emperor Himself. Quite often, the Emperor had to intervene to just stop all petty squabbles between the two sides which they all did, just to be on his good grace, as much like the other commanders, he had the Empire's Goals a top priority, still, this animosity between the Military and Intelligence Branches would permeate through the show.
However, despite his rivalry with the Great General, Argos did had a level of respect for him, and did mourned his death. This display of respect was NOT shown to the Great Marshall of Hell, who took over the Armies and saw himself as superior over all the underlings, including Argos and the Intelligence Army, and the animosity between the branches would be in full display during the remainder of the series, both sides constantly plotting at each other's back to get to the top, this rivalry between the Marshall and Argos would lead to the destruction of the Volcano Island Base. The Marshall's own fanatical hatred of the Mazingers, which was his principal drive, was a matter of contention for Argos, and this obsession fully exploded in full view with the return of Koji and Mazinger Z into action. Acting under the orders of the Emperor, Argos went as the Marshall's Stand In on Ep.54 and was given the Warrior Beast Gorgola to command, vowing to full field the revenge of Dr. Hell. Sadly however, this would lead to the end of Argos, as he was torn apart by Great Mazinger's Driller Pressure Punch. When Janus grabbed his True Face his final words to her before shutting down was “I have failed!”.
Despite been dead, Janus held to his head as a symbolic way to bring Argos to the final Battle, but during the crash of Demonica after the Kamikaze assault by Prof. Kabuto with the Control Tower of the Science Fortress, she loses the head, and is never seen again, and likely been fully destroyed when Demonica exploded with the remainder of the Command Staff on board.
Note: the True face of Argos is the subject on an animation error – when Janus recovered Argos, she only saved his true face, but in the next episode, in the meeting of the surviving Commanders in the final Mission following the death of the Beast Golden Phoenix, she is holding the Cyborg Head, only for then to been seen holding the True Red Face in hand later on.
