I'm reminded of the final arc of Dragonball Z, where the one young man was fighting for the prize money to bring water to his village. After he lost (of course, he faced off against Goku), Bulma came to him and gave him a parting gift: a Capsule Corp capsule that turned into what looked to be a 50,000 gallon water tank. He thanked her but pointed out that it won't help, since water is so expensive where he is from. Bulma then pointed him to the public water tap, letting him know that where they are now, water is free for the taking, and with that capsule, he could carry as much as he wanted back to his people.
They were closing the arc, and I guess they wanted to make sure all the good guys (including the innocents who joined the tournament with noble intentions for the prize money) got rewarded.
We never found out who won the tournament, however, when Goku squared off against this fighter named Uub (who was suspected to be the reincarnation of the Villian Majin Buu, but without the evil tendencies) Goku stopped fighting midway through the match, told everyone he was going to Uub's village to help train him, then he picked Uup up and they flew off toward the horizon.
---
In the next series (Dragonball Super) Goku comes back after spending a few years with Uub, and after he gets scolded for "running off without notice," Uub is never mentioned again. Also, Majin Buu is back for some reason, in his fat, child-mentality form, no explanation for that or if it means Uub wasn't Buu after all.
The writing kinda stinks at times (like MOST of the "at times"), but they sure know how do animate over-the -top fight scenes. (Ever see a scrawny old man suddenly put on about 300 lbs of upper body muscles right before firing off a ki attack? You'll see it on Dragonball.)

"Over NINE THOUSAND!?!?!?!"
*pulls the Scouter off his head and crushes it because ... reasons*
(Seriously, there was no valid reason for Vegeta to crush the Scouter. It wasn't a "This thing is useless" moment, it was an "I'm frustrated that I found someone stronger than me" moment. Wouldn't be the last time either, Vegeta NEVER surpasses Kakarot/Goku.)

Not quite; Super is a "mid-quel" that takes place after Buu's destruction, but before Goku meets Uub years later.
And, halfway through the Buu arc, the Fat Buu becomes separated into his good self (fat and pink) and evil self (emaciated and gray). The evil Buu absorbs the good one and becomes the pink Super Buu, who then absorbs several of the heroes; when Goku and Vegeta free them, Super Buu loses so much power he reverts back to Kid Buu, who's not as powerful but yes infinitely more psychotic. Kid Buu is the one who reincarnates as Uub years later, while the good Buu survives (and Goku wishes for the people of Earth to forget about him so they won't fear him anymore).

As if the show wasn't complicated enough trying to keep track of all the heroes/ villains, and others. (The creatror of the series HIMSELF forgot about Krillin's "Jeckel&Hyde" girlfriend between DB and DBZ.)
And being a mid-quel, that means that it has to wrap up with the story right about where it started, since the storyline's future is already set.
