This is the same engine as the previous photograph, but in a different location on the Illinois Railway Museum Mainline. It is passing the train the photograph was taken from, that is parked on the siding and pulling a Demonstration Freight Train.
The Chicago Burlington & Quincy 504 is a General Motors Electro Motive Division SD-24 unit that was built in 1959. It was recently repainted to its original red, white and gray color scheme. Before the repainting, it wore the green and white colors of the Burlington Northern line, and was locomotive number 6244.
The unit is 60ft 8in long, 10ft 8in wide, 14ft 1in tall, and weighs 164 tons.
Its engine produces 2400 horsepower
This locomotive is fully operational and functions privately at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois. At the time of this photo the new paint was finished just in time for this event (the Wednesday before I was told).
Equipment: Nikon D40 w/ 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens
