Not without some evidence. He occasionally gets into fights or duels with his fellow nobles, and hasn't lost. People now "put up" with him, because taking offense would be painful in the long run. It's why the King sent him on this multi year mission east with a group of humans, so the court could relax for a while.
Skill for skill, and pound for pound, Magnus is a better fighter. Asheru has other skills and may be more useful for the party than magnus in total, until it comes down to a fight. Asheru is learning though, and Magnus may be a bit self satisfied. It's been a few years since magnus was in combat.
Well to be fair to Magnus, he's just an asshole, but he is competent. he's a very skilled fighter, and actually runs his "estate" as a business, and his job switches from City cop, to war leader depending on the situation. He does think that the pampered members of court aren't what they should be. he is a snob, and can be patronizing, but he's not lazy or incompetent. He's just getting too abrasive for the local court.
Oh without a doubt Magnus is a good soldier and leader, Spec can be a real prick too at times lol. I guess they come from different worlds.. Magnus is a noble, while Spec spends more time among criminals, slavers, mercs and other shady type characters and because he gets payed by nobles to disrupt those operations, he has his opinions on nobles and the concept of nobility. And they do seem to have very different world views. Tho yeah, they would argue about some things for sure...
