found this in a copy of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on my little bro Max's bookcase. Id forgotten Id given it to him on his 13th birthday a couple years ago. He never read it, claims he tried.. maybe someday it will be to him like it is to me..
that's what I tried to write and explain. I even turned his name (just Max) into Maxamillian, like Trillian from the book, in the same way she took on a new name to fit her change of scenery..
In many ways I saw giving the book hitchhikers as a rite of passage, a torch passed- saying, 'here, I know you're growin up, dreaming bigger dreams.. don't grow up too fast..- but this is a rebellious book. A silly book. I want you to live fully the time you've got as a kid, make mistakes, but I want to acknowledge you as mature too.. living in a larger world, seeking things out, findin yourself. That's ok, that's what this time is for..'
ya. I don't know how much that all came through. I wish it did. Maybe its only stuff you see on the other side of it all...

Oh goodness.. I haven't read that 'trilogy' in ages. I should pick it up again, after The Dark Tower. =]
It's a great mark, too. =] He'll love it when he treks through the book, and he'll wish he'd done so sooner. It's like my brother's reaction when he read through the Calvin & Hobbes collection I gave him years ago for Christmas.
