Cory's Glugging Gløgg/Glögg (Alcoholic Mulled Wine)
As to pay homage to what was my birthday, March 3, I decided to follow a mulled wine recipe for Mulled Wine Day, but since I have so many, I decided to mix the recipes together and got this that was really tasty. For this I made from experimentation, there is a hint of a different fruit that makes it one of a kind-and it is not a citrus- APPLE! The color of the wine is the color of the lips, ears, nose and somewhat of the pads and eyes that my fursona Cory has that makes the wine his namesake. You will see how distinctive the taste is, and there is a secret ingriedient that I will list, but will not tell! Hope you like what I concocted- it is for ANY holiday! Enjoy...
•750 Ml of red wine (usually full bottle)
•1 orange squeezed and peeled
•1 lemon squeezed and peeled
•3 cinnamon sticks
•3 stars anise
•Dash (1/8 tsp) of cardamom, allspice and nutmeg (you can use if mace in place of nutmeg for a more powerful flavor with the same measurement.)
•4 tbsp. sugar
•½ tbsp. light brown sugar
•1 tbsp pure vanilla extract or one pod of vanilla bean, cut open
•½ apple cut and cored
•¼ cup of brandy or aquavit
Place all ingredients in a pot, do squeeze/ wring the lemon and orange rinds to get the oil out. Add the cinnamon, but break them into 2 for each stick to get more flavor. Core out an apple and cut one half of it- cut that half into wedges. Have the remaining apple be cut into wedges also and put as a garnish in a glass. Put the pot with all the ingredients under medium heat. Stir for about 2-3 minutes. BUT WHATEVER YOU DO, LIKE IN ANY MULLED WINE RECIPE, DON’T BOIL THE WINE! When you hear the first small pops of the wine, put down the heat to simmer or low for another 3 minutes. Then turn off the heat-cover the pot and let it stand for 15 minutes. If you want the wine to be served warmer, after 15 minutes, put the pot on the lowest heat setting for 2 minutes. Then with the garnish of apple wedge in the glass and on the glass brim, serve.
Makes 3-6 servings.
The words you see that are foreign are from the Scandinavian countries- they are mutually intelligible (Gløgg is Norweigian and Danish, and Glögg is Swedish. The pronunciation is very similar. You will also see in Finland, it is written, "Glögi" in Finnish.) This beverage is submitted to be on the group,
FACCC. Constructive crtiticism/ critique is welcome. Enjoy!
...and here I am as Cory enjoying the wine in suit!: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/30692426/
