Twilight: “Kirin legends speak of a disastrous creature, more dangerous -and mercifully more rare- than the Nirik. A creature of fire and rage, bent on destruction: the Niryō.”
Applejack: “So… Kinda like those Windigos a long time ago?”
Twilight: “That would be my guess. But instead of bringing cold and hate, the Niryō spreads fire and anger, even exacting vengeance!”
Yeah, I actually heard that dialogue in my head in their voices. >w>
Anyway! So my friend Bluebrush09 and I started talking about a rival/opposing creature to the Windigo, so here we are. xD
This is some expanded lore on the canon Kirin; the Niryō, a spirit composed of Wrath Incarnate. Equestria has the Windigos that feed off hatred and disharmony and unleash it as cold and ice; the Kirin have the Niryō, which feed off anger and then spread it as flames and aggression.
There are two forms of Niryō, a Vengeance form (dark) and a Natural form (bright). A Natural Niryō is what it says on the box: A naturally occurring spirit, which congregates around areas where tempers run high and fighting is commonplace. Its body is as bright as its hottest flames, and is a telltale indication that it’s a spirit.
A Vengeance Niryō, on the other hand, is what happens when a Nirik’s rage is unresolved and continues to aggregate to a fever pitch and beyond. That Nirik then transcends their existence to become pure wrath, retaining their dark body color from their earthly form. This body color is how to tell that one is dealing with a Vengeance Niryō. These are fortunately even rarer than their naturally occurring counterpart. But because of how they form, action must be taken to quell the spiraling fury before it transcends mortality and the Kirin becomes lost to its wrath.
How’s that for some drastic-measure-justification for Rain Shine’s actions? c: (Actually I’ve got a forming headcanon on that, but that’s for another time!)
