So, my kirin changes colors with the seasons and I've never really illustrated the concept. But I think it's a case of a color shift/scales shedding. Her hair sort of changes all at once and, like a deer, her horn "drops". Though in this case she's snapping it off. The horn then grows back over the year. This change happens in March since it's my birth month.
