I took a photo of this strange insect durring the summer while a few friends and I waited on the side of the road for the parade to make it's way past. We happened to be right against a small patch of woods, and I spotted this strange little guy crawling on the leaves of a sapling. Despite my fear of insects, I managed to click a few photos of him/her. No, I was not really that close. Thank God for zoom!

Can anyone tell me what species this is? I'm curious.
