I just adore the time Crow puts into these pieces. She even leaves behind some cool little details. I really like the bit of Luca's hair resting on Siber's muzzle, and even the pillow in the background that is about to fall off of the bed.
The sun started to rise over the horizon. Its light pierced through the curtains of the bedroom. The golden jackal woke up to the summer breeze that pushed its way through the open windows, letting the curtains flail around ever so gently.
He looked to his right, checking the time. He had no plans for the day. Today he just wanted to rest. The jackal turned to his left. His companion was still asleep beside him. Siber took a deep breath and relaxed.
The blue jackal next to him perked her ears. She sensed that Siber was awake. She turned to lay on her side, looking into his eyes. She smiled.
Siber looked back at Luca. He smiled and looked into her eyes, as well.
“Good morning,” Luca said.
“Morning,” Siber responded.
Luca pulled herself closer to her golden-furred friend.
“Nothing planned for today?” she asked.
Siber shook his head, “no.”
“Good!” Luca jumped up, her bosom bouncing in her excitement.
“Why’s that?”
“I wanted to relax in bed with my favorite jackal.”
Siber blushed as he smiled. It was like Luca was reading his mind. He was glad though, that she had the same plan as him. He looked to the ceiling.
“It’s been a while since we’ve had some peace and quiet, huh?” Siber asked.
“It has,” Luca responded, “I remember when it was like this all the time.”
“Back in the forest?”
Luca nodded. That forest held a lot of memories for her. More than that of her own home in the desert. She laid back down, looking up at the ceiling with Siber.
“Remember when I first found your pack?” the blue jackal reminisced.
Siber nodded, “yeah. They all were surrounding you, trying to get you to leave.”
“If you weren’t there, I would have listened to them. When you showed up, my mind instantly went to ease. You were a sight for sore eyes.”
“I could tell you were different. Your Aura was like a cascading waterfall.”
Luca sat up once more.
“Oh! Speaking of that,” she said quickly, “remember when you were trying to show off your agility that one time?”
“On that waterfall at my training spot?”
“Yeah! You ran at it from across the frozen pond, and tried to run up the frozen water!”
Siber laughed. He remembered that day like it was yesterday. He had to cut that day’s training short due to what happened.
“You took two steps up the waterfall, and came crashing down,” Luca giggled, “you broke through the ice on the pond, and fell into the freezing water.”
“We all make mistakes,” Siber responded, “I bet I can do it now!”
“I bet you can.”
Siber sensed the sarcasm in her voice. He smirked.
“How about you give it a try?” he responded, pushing Luca gently.
“I will! Once we get back there, of course,” she snapped back.
The two laughed. Luca laid down once more, resting her arm on Siber’s stomach. Somewhat surprised by her movement, Siber wrapped his arm around her back and placed his hand on her side. Silence filled the room once more,
“What was it like?” Luca spoke, “being without me?”
Siber thought for seemingly ages about his response. He was stunned at first, by how sudden it was. He knew exactly how he felt. It was hard for him to put it into words.
“It was painful,” Siber finally answered, “all of the time, I turned around, expecting you to be there, but you weren’t. It hurt every single time I did that.”
“That obviously never stopped you,” Luca said.
Siber shook his head, “I never gave up on looking for you. Every action I took here in Nessus was to find you.”
“What about Sarah and Crystal?”
“They understood my situation. They helped as much as they could. Sarah supplied me with information, and Crystal supplied me with the tools to carry out my mission.”
Luca smiled. She knew he could do a lot on his own, but he could only do so much alone. She was glad that he found the others to help.
“And Niobe?” Luca pondered.
“I haven’t seen her since the day I found you,” Siber explained.
“I know she was against you trying to find me. She wanted you to be more powerful by shattering your bond to me.”
“Some bonds are to hard to break.”
“Some are even unbreakable.”
The sun was in full view now. The light shined into the room, warming the two jackals. Siber’s brilliant golden pelt glistened.
Luca laid her head down on Siber’s chest. His fluff was soft and warm. She heard his heartbeat and felt his breathing. Her own heart matched his heartbeat, and her breathing started to match as well. She smiled and closed her eyes.
“I love you, Siber,” she whispered.
“I love you too, Luca,” he whispered back.
