OUTBACK ISLAND - MARINA PARK
It is dark and windy as the van pulls over a bridge and into a marina, docks with small boats on one side and concession stands on the other. The van stops right in the center. The back door clicks open a crack. Hazel peeks out before opening it all the way so she and Judy can step out.
JUDY
Uh, Ariel? No offense, but this kind of looks like a. . . (her ears perk) Ariel?
Hazel climbs up on the side and looks into the driver's seat.
HAZEL
Oh, crap. (to Judy) She's gone already.
JUDY
What?!
HAZEL
Just stay close. (slips on her taser glove) And keep your ears up.
Judy arms her tranquilizer gun and edges away from the van, back to back with Hazel. Judy's eyes dart at the creaking of wood from a sign, then at a chain jingling as they are blown by the wind. She takes a deep breath, closes her eyes and keeps her ears up.
SHIFT PERSPECTIVE from a crack in the wall as Judy and Hazel pass. A large shadow rises up from the floor to obscure it.
Judy hears something CLICK and turns one of her ears.
JUDY
Did you hear that?
HAZEL
Hear what?
A low constant SNARLING is heard, constant and slowly building from all directions. Hazel's eyes widen and her lower jaw begins to quiver.
HAZEL
Do you hear that?
JUDY
It sounds like. . .
Judy turns just as a Tasmanian devil emerges from between two of the stands, eyes fixated on her and SNARLING. He is followed by another, and another, and another.
Hazel turns around, then takes a step back. Another line of devils has formed behind them, SNARLING with quivering angry lower lips.
JUDY
Easy Hazel. . .
Judy's eyes dart left and right at the devils. Their snarl escalates to full-on SCREAMING, many of them now brandishing knives or clubs and making feinting motions as if going to charge.
Her ears twitch and swivel at the sound of something SLICING through the air. Ariel's boomerang sails over the heads of the devils and strikes with a CLANG against the barrel of a sniper rifle on the rooftops.
BLAM! The shot goes straight up into the air. The devils all fall silent, then turn their heads as the sniper lets out a WILHELM SCREAM as he falls off the roof and SPLASHES into the water.
Judy and Hazel both dart their heads in the other direction. Ariel, standing on the rooftops, waves to them.
The other devils SCREAM and charge. One devil with a machete makes a flying leap. Judy and Hazel dive to evade in opposite directions. Judy aims and fires a tranquilizer at him, which he deflects with a SLICE of his blade. He lunges at her and his blade goes CLANG against her knee pad as she parries him away. Another devil swings a crowbar at her behind -- she ducks and scurries away to regain her footing.
Hazel leaps onto a devil trying to block the pier and ZAPS him as he falls backwards. She tumbles down the stairs and rises to meet the devils as they funnel down the stairs, still GROWLING at her.
There is a BURST from the water. Hazel spins around just in time to duck as a platypus jumps onto the water and slashes at her with his venom spur. She dives down a side pier to evade a second slash. A second platypus grabs onto her ankles through a space between the boards and tries to pull her down.
PLATYPUS
Check! (sees Hazel's taser) Woop! (lets go and scurries away and out of the water)
Judy runs along the guardrail, jumps over a devil swinging a bat at her ankles and makes a diving kick at the devil behind him. She knocks him down, but he uses the momentum to toss her off of him and rolls backwards and back onto his feet. She fires another shot while lying on her back and catches the devil with the bat in the shoulder, dropping him. Judy springs to her feet and backs away, stopping when her tail brushes against the stands behind her.
A stun baton appears at her right, startling her. When she looks up, it is held by Ariel, who rotates it and offers Judy the handle. Judy takes it and Ariel holds up another in her other hand.
ARIEL
Just follow my lead.
The devils suddenly move aside so a devil with twin katanas can step forward with a crazed look in his eye and GROWLING louder than all the others.
ARIEL
Hi Raizel.
Raizel SCREAMS and charges Ariel. She blocks his swords, but the momentum knocks her backwards and they CRASH through the wood behind her.
JUDY
Follow your-? (ducks a swing from a crowbar) Oi! (jumps away)
