Instructor: "Lad, that's a sword - not a stick to poke pigs with. If you want to poke an enemy with that, use halfswording - otherwise you are just going to scratch their armor."
That said, it is a nice piece, but I can't understand why one would grab what apparently is a one-handed sword with both hands - unless the wielder is weak and/or very inexperienced.

By the angle it looks more like a long sword to me?
Halfswording is great in a heavy press melee where you simply don’t have the room to swing the weapon. He’s obviously not being swamped with opponents here.
Honestly it looks like he’s poised in ambush just behind a corner waiting to thrust the tip of his blade into the next enemy foolish enough to try and advance.

You’re not wrong about the point control bit, and when forced to do so it’s an effective technique. However it’s certainly not the only technique!
Longswords have amazing reach, speed, and power. It’s an absolute shame to not take advantage of the rest of its full potential.
Personally I’ve never had much trouble getting the ‘point’ across to my opponents with both hands on the hilt.

It may not very visible, but he was supposed to be somewhat reclining on the wall. He was supposedly tired and hurt after combat and waiting in case someone appears to kill him. Not using a particular sword stance, just trying to stay alive. And it's also a two handed sword, it's just the angle which makes it look shorter :P
