Where's this Barbarians BARBER
So this was a full body full colour commission! It took me an embarrassing amount of time, and about 85% of that was because of sleeve tattoos.
I may have to consider having some set price when it comes to commissions asking for tattoos on their characters because when you think about it, it's basically an entire masterpiece (just smaller) on TOP of a commission. Its like getting two out of me and then paying for just one, especially when they're highly detailed like this one and I spend a week getting it just right. If they're simple tattoos though, then it's like, no extra cost. But this is my second commission with a specific and detailed tattoo in full view.
I'll get around to it and figure my life out eventually.

WELL I actually did charge an extra 20$ after days of deliberating and contacting fellow artists about their opinions on what I should do about it. It honestly took me a week to do JUST the tattoo. I'm so relieved the commissioner liked it, and while I have complaints about how it turned out, I know I'm also just being hard on myself.
Doing math for art is really hard I want to be fair to my customers but I also need to be fair to myself.

clearly
It's something I need to sit back and reconsider how I want to change my prices. All commissioners are constantly faced with the worry that if they charge too much, no one will want to buy their art.
There's also people that TELL YOU you should up your prices but then....Don't purchase. It feels draining and insulting.

Find the perfect middle... I tend to think about it as like $1-5~ per hour for very amateur art $5-10~ per hour for good art and $10+ per hour for very good art. If it's your Job and you're drawing for a living and it takes you 20 hours to do a $30 commission, you're going to have a bad time. :D
Right??? I remember reading somewhere that basing on what your country's minimum wage was, which for me is 15$/h, then thats what you should charge per hour
But not all of my artworks are, like,......they sometimes take me within just the hour and its like wow im super fast, i dont benefit from that method of charging at all, so I had to create base prices.
But I guess if im taking hours and hours on something that is highly detailed oriented (And I'm FAIR and HONEST about my working hours) then that might be an added price. So who knows.

You should just request to see the character upfront and ask for all the details that the person wants first and adapt based on that.
Minimum wage is also partly what I base my prices on.
If it's a complex tattoo like that, you can say "I don't do such complex characters", you can ask for $20-50 really, those people with complex characters should know that having such complex characters will take a lot more time to draw and be prepared to pay more for the art they receive, it's just normal. Just the dragon tattoo on my back is somewhat simple, but I wouldn't mind paying like $5 or so if someone asked me for it because I know it's like "A drawing more" (Well not really but if it was more complex yeah).
Wings, tattoos, characters with like 10 peepees or 10 arms, they take a lot longer to draw.
Yes your drawings are like $30 for maybe 2-5 hours of work, idk. But if you add 10 hours of work with a tattoo, wings and 8 arms, then you should get paid at least double, at least, that's my opinion. ^^
